Routine With Products That Work For
Your Skin Type

As many dermatologists will tell you, it’s a good idea to start your daily beauty
skincare routine with products that work for your skin type skin tightening machine. Then you can build on
that foundation with additional steps based on your own specific needs and concerns
(we’ve included some of our favorite products from the Good Housekeeping Institute
Beauty Lab below).

Cleansing (Morning/Night)
A cleanser is a staple in every skin-care regimen for all types, but it’s especially
important if you have oily skin because excess oil can clog pores and lead to
breakouts. When choosing a cleanser skin tightening device, choose one that’s free of sulfates and
parabens and contains ingredients like shea butter or aloe vera.
If you have oily skin, a gel or foam cleanser with exfoliating properties like salicylic
acid is a great choice to keep your complexion clear, while those with dry or

sensitive skin should look for a creamy, non-foaming face wash containing barrier-
boosting ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Those with

sensitive skin should also avoid those that contain fragrance and color, as these may
cause irritation.
After cleansing, follow with a toner. “Toners can rebalance your skin’s pH level and
help rehydrate the surface, which is important for all types of complexions,” says
Rouleau. A balancing witch hazel toner is a good choice, such as Thayer’s Witch
Hazel Rose Petal Toner ($9). If you have oily or acne-prone skin, she recommends
using an AHA or BHA serum with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as glycolic acid
and salicylic acid to minimize the appearance of pores and resurface dull skin, like
Caudalie Vinopure Natural Acne Control Serum ($49).

Next, apply a light moisturizer such as Dr. Gohara’s Skin Vitality Moisturizer, which
includes peptides to reduce fine lines and wrinkles over time. Those with sensitive
skin should try a lightweight hydration serum or an oil-free moisturizer, such as
Dermalogica Ultra Rich Moisturizer.
Apply sunscreen and reapply often, as even brief exposure to the sun can increase
your risk of skin cancer. “Make sure to use a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher,” says
Rouleau.
If you wear makeup, apply an eye cream to reduce dark circles and puffiness before
applying your usual makeup. Then finish with a lip balm that’s free of sulfates,
parabens and fragrance, such as OPI Avoplex Nail & Lip Balm ($9).
If you’re new to a certain product, try applying a pea-sized dot behind your ear or
along your jawline for a few days to see how your skin reacts before committing to
using it all over your face. And remember that the best skincare routine takes time
to take effect, so stick with it! The results are worth it.
